Troxerutin is a hydroxyethylated derivative of rutin8. It is used in a combination product with ginkgo and heptaminol that is described as a venotonic, strengthening vein walls and reducing capillary permeability9. Supplementation follows from that effect: leg swelling and heaviness in chronic venous insufficiency, and bleeding and discomfort in hemorrhoidal disease. Typical users are adults with venous symptoms who are often already wearing compression stockings.

Most trials test troxerutin inside combinations. A coumarin-troxerutin product limited recurrent leg swelling after compression stockings were stopped1. A flavonoid mixture containing troxerutin controlled hemorrhoidal bleeding about as well as a diosmin-based comparator2. Cochrane and systematic reviews in lymphoedema and retinal vein occlusion found insufficient or limited evidence of benefit10, 11. A 2026 review of cell and animal studies described antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activity in cancer models; no human trial has tested this8. Eight products listing troxerutin are sold, mostly as capsules in combination formulas; see Form comparison.

In a placebo-controlled trial of a coumarin-troxerutin combination, liver enzyme elevations were transient and tied to prior hepatitis or liver disease7. Per United States product labels, patients on prescription medications are told to consult their physician about interactions6.
