Lactobacillus helveticus is a lactic acid bacterium used in fermented dairy and as a probiotic, with effects that are strain-specific and act through the gut-brain axis and gut barrier signaling. Gastrointestinal uses follow, including constipation symptoms with heat-treated fermented milk and adjunct use during Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy.

The evidence is strain-bound and mixed.9 In antibiotic-associated diarrhea, primary outcomes were null, though a post hoc analysis found shorter diarrhea-like defecations. Products listing L. helveticus number 2725 in the National Institutes of Health label database, mostly multi-strain capsules, alongside fermented milks and heat-killed preparations; see Form comparison.

United States labels carry milk and soy allergen statements because the strain is grown on fermentation media8. A few labels ask for separation from antibiotic doses, which they route to timing8.
